The hunt for the ultimate vintage find
“The Fabulist is ultimately a store in which you’ll find something you didn’t know you needed or wanted,” says Jason. “It is quite eclectic but, strangely, quite a coherent collection of ever-changing wonderment.”

Welcome to The Fabulist, your premier destination for vintage treasures and one-of-a-kind finds in West Auckland. At The Fabulist, we have a passion for uncovering the beauty in the old and unusual, and our journey to find these hidden gems is our constant mission.
Founded in 2013, The Fabulist emerged from the depths of an old fruit-packing shed and has since become a beloved hotspot for enthusiasts of antiques, collectibles, and unique pieces from all over the globe.
Unlike your typical vintage shop, our collection is far from ordinary – think less "Nana's china" and more "the bizarre and extraordinary." Our shop's name, "The Fabulist," was inspired by the tales of the 19th-century explorer Louis De Rougemont, who spun extraordinary stories of shipwrecks and adventures in remote Australia, including riding turtles and steering them with his feet.
Much like De Rougemont's fantastical stories, our store is brimming with fabulous and extraordinary treasures waiting to be discovered. The dynamic duo behind The Fabulist, Kristin Seth and Jason Hall, share a perfect synergy in their pursuit of the exceptional. Jason has a keen eye for uncovering hidden "gold," while Kristin's talent lies in curating the shop's splendid displays. Together, they've created a shopping experience that's both visually stunning and full of unique, hand-picked items.
Our quest for vintage treasures takes us up and down the North Island, and around the world where we scour auctions, estate sales, antique fairs, and swap meets to curate a collection like no other.
We're not just collectors; we're storytellers, and each piece in our store has its own history waiting to be explored.
Many of our discoveries come from word-of-mouth recommendations, as one remarkable find often leads to another. One fascinating trend we've observed is the growing demand for New Zealand historical artifacts.
But our inventory spans far beyond that, with some of the most intriguing items we've stocked including a Japanese Kabuki theatre wig made from real hair, an anatomical model ear, and even taxidermy platypuses and lions. The Fabulist is not just a store; it's an ever-changing wonderland of eclectic treasures waiting to be discovered. We take pride in offering you items you never knew you needed or wanted, each with its own unique story to tell. So, join us on this vintage adventure and uncover the extraordinary at The Fabulist.
